Market Support Team Member
The Watauga County Farmers’ Market is hiring Market Support Team Members to help steward one of Boone’s most beloved community traditions.
For over 50 years, the market has served as a gathering place for local farmers, makers, musicians, neighbors, and visitors - a space rooted in local food, connection, creativity, and community care. We are seeking dependable, community-minded individuals who want to help create a welcoming, organized, and vibrant experience for everyone who comes to market.
Market Support Team Members play an essential role in weekly market operations, helping the market run smoothly while supporting vendors, customers, food access programs, special events, and the overall atmosphere of the market.
This is meaningful, hands-on work in a fast-paced outdoor environment where no two Saturdays are exactly alike.
Position Overview
This is a part-time seasonal position working Saturdays during the Market season (April–November). Team members are asked to commit to at least two Saturdays per month, with opportunities to work additional dates depending on scheduling needs.
Shifts
Team members rotate through the following shifts:
A Shift: 6:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Focus on early morning site preparation, site safety, signage, and helping the market come to life before opening.
B Shift: 7:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Assist with market set-up, operations during market hours, and break-down.
C Shift: 7:45 AM – ~1:30 PM
Lead Info Booth and token program representative, assist with end-of-day tasks including token reconciliation.
All team members help with parking lot support, Info Booth operations, customer questions, special events, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere throughout the morning.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
Welcoming customers and assisting vendors
Helping with market set-up and break-down
Managing parking lot traffic and pedestrian safety
Staffing the Market Info Booth
Assisting with SNAP/EBT and Double Up Food Bucks transactions
Selling WCFM merchandise
Supporting special events, musicians, and community partners
Taking thoughtful photos of market activity to support outreach and storytelling
Helping maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming market space
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
Is reliable, positive, and friendly
Enjoys working with people in a fast-paced outdoor environment
Has experience in customer service, events, hospitality, retail, or community engagement
Is enthusiastic about supporting local farms, artists, makers, and food systems
Can work independently, stay adaptable, and take initiative
Has reliable transportation
Appreciates the value of community gathering spaces and local culture
Position Details
Season: April - November
Schedule: Saturdays (minimum two per month)
Hours: Approximately 5 - 6 hours per shift
Compensation: $14 - 15/hour depending on experience
