Communications & Food Access Coordinator

Watauga County Farmers Market (WCFM) is looking for a creative and motivated Communications & Food Access Coordinator to help us enhance our brand, increase the visibility of our Farmers’ Market in the community, and assist with the management of our growing Double Up Food Bucks food access programming at the Market. 

As Communications & Food Access Coordinator, you will be working closely with the Market Director using social media platforms to promote, manage, and share the WCFM image and story. You will also serve as the primary point person for all things Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) at WCFM including customer-facing distribution of tokens, data entry, token collection, and vendor reimbursement. 

Part-time, flexible schedule, 8-12 hours per week, both in-person and remote. Must be willing to work regularly on Saturday mornings during the market season (April - November). Position begins on or around April 6, 2024.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have a presence at the WCFM Market Info Booth with primary responsibility for representing and implementing the DUFB program

  • Responsible for organizing DUFB supplies, maintaining accurate records, collection/distribution of vendor token envelopes, facilitation of  SNAP/EBT/FMNP transactions, program participant education

  • Process vendor tokens including data entry and vendor reimbursement

  • Create written, graphic, photo and video content for WCFM owned Facebook, Instagram, website, and e-newsletter

  • Curate posts featuring vendors, products, special events etc. with a focus on sharing our story and developing the WCFM brand

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Skilled in photography, videography, and/or basic graphic design for the web

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly organized and driven with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Mastery of Google Sheets/Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework or experience in Marketing, Public Relations, Commercial Photography or other relevant field of study

  • Expertise in the utilization of popular social media platforms

  • Demonstrated interest in food access and/or working to support small farms and local businesses

Compensation:

  • $16 -$18/hr. based on experience.

Market Support Team Member

The role of the Market Support Team Member is to provide a safe and welcoming Market space and to promote the curation of an enjoyable Farmers’ Market experience for customers and vendors alike. The Market Support Team Member should commit to working a minimum of 2 Saturdays per month during the months of May - October from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The position of Market Support Team Member for Watauga County Farmers' Market is a part-time, temporary job.  The compensation is hourly. The Market Support Team Member will work an estimated 6 hours a week, for 15 - 30 weeks during the market season (April - October). The anticipated start date is on or around April 6, 2024. We will be hiring multiple candidates for this role.

On Market days the responsibilities of the Market Support Team Member may include:

  • Being a positive, helpful, and engaging resource for customers and vendors

  • Being knowledgeable with all rules and procedures of the market

  • Assisting with setup of trash cans, market tents and tables, traffic cones and market signs on each market day

  • Cleaning and maintaining the restrooms at Horn in the West if needed

  • Enforcing Market policies

  • Taking shifts monitoring parking lot and helping to park cars safely and efficiently

  • Helping to conduct customer and vendor surveys

  • Assisting with special events and Market activities

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will:

  • have previous experience in a customer service or retail setting

  • be reliable

  • be positive and enthusiastic about our market

  • demonstrate a passion for and interest in supporting our local food system

  • have their own vehicle or reliable transportation to and from work

Compensation:

  • $12/hr. to start
