Watauga County Farmers' Market will accept food donations on Saturdays for food insecure individuals and families. The Society of St. Andrews will be collecting and distributing the donations to local help organizations. Our farmers have been donating surplus produce for quite some time, and we would like to offer you the opportunity to help as well. You may also donate any extras you may have from your own garden. A cooler will be placed at the manager's stand for any donations.
Vendor of the week: Carol Miller
Carol is a long time vendor who embodies the love and community spirit you expext to find at the market.
We still have plenty of fresh produce on Wednesday, stop by for a mid - week fix.The Wednesday afternoon markets are from 3 to 6, find what you want without worrying about the crowds. We hope to see you there.
The folks at Watauga County Farmers' Market would like to thank everyone who came out in the rain to visit and shop. We have been extremely blessed with fine weather this season, but you will find plenty of local treats at the market despite the elements.
This Saturday Zydeco Moon Organic Farm will offer spicy arugula, sweet butternut, acorn and delicate squash, lettuce, golden and Chiogga beets. Sunshine Cove will have microgreens and heirloom tomatoes this week. Jeff and Will Thomas of Creeksong Farm will baby lettuce, green bean, summer squash, potatoes and grass fed beef.
Faith Mountain Farm will have summer mix and basswood honey along with five seed bread from freshly ground wheat. A variety of sunflowers are still being harvested along with potatoes, kale, and Swiss chard. Customers really like the chewy balls made from organic rolled oats, natural peanut butter, honey, truly raw almonds, organic raisins, and dark chocolate chips.
The Pasta Wench will have her Customer Appreciation Saturday this week, a free box of fettucin with purchase of two dozen ravioli.
Shady Grove Gardens & Nursery will have more great brightly colored zinnias and dahlias and perennial dwarf Shasta daisy 'Snowcap'. Appalachian Native Plants will offer rabbit eye blueberry plants in 2 gallon containers and native azaleas and Rhododendron in 3 gallon containers and quart containers.
The Wednesday markets will be held on Wednesday afternoons until the end of September. The hours have been moved up to 3 - 6 PM. The market is having great success on EBT acceptance, you can call 1-828-355-4918 for more information on using EBT at the market.
