Watauga County Farmers' Market

Saturday Morning October 9

You may be aware that the Watauga County Farmers' Market will be moving in the near future. We are very excited about the new location and the additional parking it will provide. Meanwhile, the seasonal slowdown at our existing location leaves plenty of parking recently, even on home game days. Come on out and easily find the best of the season.

Watauga County Farmers' Market will accept food donations on Saturdays for food insecure individuals and families. The Society of St. Andrews will be collecting and distributing the donations to local help organizations. Our farmers have been donating surplus produce for quite some time, and we would like to offer you the opportunity to help as well. You may also donate any extras you may have from your own garden. A cooler will be placed at the manager's stand for any donations.

Still Going Strong in October

Watauga County Farmers' Market will continue the Saturday morning markets through the entire month of October. We are also getting excited about the holiday market on the Saturdays before and after Thanksgiving from 10 to 2. You can look forward to some great local items including fresh home holiday decorations.

This Saturday Sunshine Cove will have Fall Microgreen Mix, Ovation Salad Mix and Elegance Salad Mix. Faith Mountain Farm still has plenty of butternut squash, spaghetti squash, potatoes, green kale and red Russian Kale, radishes, carrots, sunflowers, fall honey, and all the usual delicious baked goods. Zydeco Moon Organic Farm and Cabins will have spicy arugula, broccoli, delicata, butternut and acorn squash and lettuce. Joe and Sally also still have their heirloom tomatoes thanks to their hoop house which is like a greenhouse except that the tomatoes are planted directly in the ground. They are protected from the weather and frost so they are still hanging in there.

Tumbling Shoals Farm has plentiful fall produce. The pepper roaster will be making its last appearance this season and there will be plenty of sweet, red, and orange bell peppers along with sweet Corno Di Toro peppers and poblano peppers to roast. Jason will also have plenty of fall green delicacies including collard greens, Curly kale, Dinosaur kale, Rainbow chard, Napa cabbage, lettuce and arugula.

Shady Grove Gardens & Nursery will be bringing orange holly for holiday decorations, brilliant fresh cut flowers including orange calla lilies and lily bulbs for fall planting.

Caron Baker Wike has been busy in her studio making handbuilt pottery fall leaves, new lace bowls and her 2010 angel "Gloria". Start your holiday shopping now while the selection is at it's best. Colibri will offer one-of-a-kind holiday gifts including beautiful, handmade necklaces, bracelets, earrings from semi-precious gemstones, hand knotted necklaces, sterling wrapped pendants and sterling spiral earrings with accompanying "widgets", all of high quality workmanship.

The market is having great success on EBT acceptance, you can call 1-828-355-4918 for more information on using EBT at the market.

Find us at the Horn in the West in Boone, turn next to First Citizens Bank on Highway 105 Extension and go to the top of the hill. Call WCFM manager Karen Bauman at 1-828-355-4918 for more information. We will be there rain or shine!

Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center

Meetings and functions of the Watauga County Farmers' Market are often held at the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center. The map to the Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center may be of help. This indicates the actual entrance to the Conference Center off Poplar Grove Road, not the main entrance to the Cooperative Extension Office on King Street.
